Mana recenzija (pārdomas)/My (thoughts) review
Džordža sapņi, kad viņš aizmieg, nav nekādi parastie sapņi, tie var būt ‘’efektīvi’’ un kļūt par realitāti. Šķiet, daudzi gribētu šādas spējas, bet visi tie, kas pirmajā momentā tam piekristu, kļūtu par upuri šim kārdinājumam.
Lieta tāda, ka Džordžs savus sapņus kontrolēt un ietekmēt, kaut kas pa dienu pieredzēts un nogulsnējies zemapziņā, šajā īpašajā sapņu fāzē var no tās uzpeldēt pavisam citādāk, nekā, ja Džordžs būtu nomodā pie apziņas. Bailēs no efektīvajiem sapņiem Džordžs lietojis dažnedažādas zāles, bet veltīgi, tāpēc savu glābiņu pie psihoterapeita Heibera.
Heibers, iespējams, bet tikai terapijas sākumā ir gatavs patiešām palīdzēt savam pacientam kā ārsts. Bet ātri vien uz āru iznāk viņa patiesā varas kārā daba; pacients viņam rūp maz. Patika, ka Džordžs darba laikā izauga savā raksturā. Par Heiberu var vien teikt, ka viņš ir viens liels maita; cerēju beigās uz to sliktāko viņam (būtu pelnījis). Un, kā pēdējais pieminamais tēls ir advokāte Hetere.
Noteikti tiek apspēlēta tēma, ko gan cilvēks iesāktu, ja viņa rokās nonāktu spējas ietekmēt un radikāli izmainīt realitāti sev apkārt, ja viņa rīcībā būtu dieviem pielīdzināms spēks. Vai rīkotos savtīgi, vai arī mēģinātu risināt globālas problēmas(pārapdzīvotība, klimata pārmaiņas u.c.)? Pat, ja viņa nodomi ir labi un nevienam ļaunu nevēloši, var gadīties, ka tie bruģēts ceļš uz elli. Cilvēka prāts un apziņa tam vienkārši ir reizē gan par komplicētu, gan haotisku (domu virpuli), pārāk aptuvens. Vai mēs spējam nošķirt to, ko gribam, no tā, kas ir vajadzīgs un nepieciešams?
Citas filozofiskas domas rādās par ‘’tauriņa efektu’’, kur pat viens vēziens var būt, kā pirmais krītošais domino kauliņš kaut kam otrā pasaules malā. Bet varbūt arī otrā Visumā galā? Grāmatā ‘’Lathe of Heaven’’ šis tauriņš nevis vienkārši mierīgi vēzē spārnus, bet plivina tos kā negudrs, tāpēc mana atbildu būtu – jā. Īpaši tādēļ, ka Zemes tuvumā uzrodas un par sevi liek manīt neparasta citplanētiešu rase, kurai tā vien šķiet pieredze ar efektīvajiem sapņiem ir maķenīt lielāka.

George Orr’s dreams, when he sleeps, are not your usual dreams. They can be ‘’effective’’ and become the new reality. You might think that there would be many who would happily agree to have such powers but they would become a victim to this temptation.
Things are that George can control or influence his dreams, and something that during the day has sank to the bottom of his subconsciousness might during these special dreams surface up in a way that George when awake wouldn’t choose to do. In fear of dreaming George turns for help to psychiatrist Dr. Haber.
Maybe, just maybe, Haber had thought to help George at the beginning as a doctor should. But soon enough his true natures reveals itself; he more cares about himself than the patient. I liked how George in this novel grew as a character. About Haber I can only say that at the end I hoped for the worse to him, as deserved. And the last added character is lawyer Heather Lelache.
The topic about what would a man do if he could change and radically modify the reality around him only if he had the power of gods. Would you be selfish or try to solve global problems (i.e. overpopulations, climate changes)? Even your intentions are good, the outcome might be the pavement to hell. The mind of a man is just too complex and chaotic at the same time, too abstract. Can we separate what we need from what we want?
Different philosophical thought I had about the butterfly effect, where even one flap of wings might tip the first domino and make something happen on the other side of Earth. But maybe even on the other side of Universe? In Lathe of Heaven this butterfly isn’t just roaming around but intensively flying and flapping its wings like crazy. That’s why my answer would be – Yes. Especially because nearby Earth peculiar alien race shows up and make sure to be noticed; it seemed that they has had a little bigger experience with effective dreaming.
